Being exposed to the music entertainment industry for almost all of our lives, Mornings with R-Funk and Lil-G has pretty much seen the best and the worst of them all. From the one hit wonders to the artists that have created a huge impact in music to the ones that just came out of nowhere and have no intention of leaving.
We have to admit; the industry has grown and continues to grow with talents left and right. The sad part of it all is that even those that might have that potential oftentimes fail. Lady Gaga who is know for her uncanny and out of this world approach on entertainment once said “You have to be unique, different and shine in your own way.” While the much acclaimed and very controversial Madonna also in similar context said “I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams.”
The road to success isn't an easy path to journey on, but those that find its difficulty a challenge and not a hindrance usually reach their goals in no time. Nowadays, it’s all about the eccentric and outlandish styles that creates a fan base of many but still some feel withdrawn to actually make that step. For some, the norm is always the best. For others, a mediocre approach is not an option.
It’s sad to know that the music industry in the Philippines is so used to having talents that could be great yet cage them in an arena that makes other countries simply label them as imitators. How can the country be individualized as unique and profitable when in fact, the industry will not give the freedom of the artist to do so in the first place.
With a whole variety of genres in the music industry worldwide, it’s dissatisfying to witness a country that only sticks to a handful of genres and still striving to make a mark in the international scene. We admit there are a solid number of great Rock Bands in the Philippines, but what about other genres? Hip-Hop? R and B? Pop? Electro? Although there are a few factors in the music industry the puts the Philippines way behind, Its quite refreshing that one has stepped out of the mediocre mindset and has strived to express herself as different from the rest.
