Ten long years ago, the boy with the lightning scar took the world by storm. Who would have suspected that he, with an awkward boy and a red-head bookworm, would open our hearts and minds to a whole new reality. Harry Potter has charmed us for ten years, and now we say, “Farewell” .
We, Potter-heads, have dedicated ourselves to the adventures of Harry Potter from the beginning till the very last wave of their wands. And yet, we are not ready to let go. We have been mesmerized too much by the mystical charms that only Harry Potter installments could give.
Most of you may have already witnessed the epic finale of Harry Potter, and some of you may have seen it more than twice already. We, ourselves, could not help but feel entranced to the alluring ending of how everything began. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part2 not only broke box office records, but also, in a way, broke our hearts.
We all remember the first time we knew the”boy with the lightning scar”. He was a skinny lad, sleeping under a staircase, and was considered the family’s shame. His parents were killed. He was bullied by his uncle and cousin, and was always demeaned by his cruel aunt. Yet on his 11th birthday, Harry Potter discovered his great destiny. He was the Boy Who Survived. He was the Chosen One. He was to defeat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Lord Voldemort. The controversy was too much for an eleven-year-old, and gladly, Harry Potter met friends, the opinionated library maniac, Hermione Granger and the charming red-head, Ronald Weasley. As years went by, Harry grew, and the world grew with him.
It is astonishing how Harry Potter grew “into” us like he was part of our reality. It’s mind boggling how “real” it feels to think of witches and wizards and spells. And it is frightening how Dementors invaded our dreams and sucked our souls. Harry Potter impacted us in so many ways, it feels magical. It is no surprise that millions of people’s lives have been inspired and intrigued by the classic yet thrilling stories of Harry’s battle with himself and his nemesis, with his love for his friends, and his road to greatness. Uncanny as it may to try to explain how Harry Potter touched our lives, we cannot deny the fact that we profoundly appreciate the “I-wish-that-was-real” feeling that only Harry Potter installments could captivate us with.
Yet it has been ten years since the day we met the boy with the lightning scar. Most of us were around 10 years old, and now we’ve turned 21. It almost hurts to say goodbye to someone we’ve known for a decade, but all good things must come to an end.
Farewell, Harry Potter.
