TRY THIS: Maybelline Fit Me! Collection

While normal people hole up in their apartments on snow days and watch movies and do other domesticated things like say cook and clean, I play with makeup. I know, sounds really strange (especially when you see that I store the stuff in my kitchen cabinets, too) but it's really not that crazy of a thing especially when you consider the fact that I've already professed my beauty junkie habits several times before on this blog. Plus, you (as the reader) totally benefit from it in that you get to find out what I think about each of the products.

With that said, let me tell you about a pretty awesome collection that came my way last week: Maybelline's Fit Me! Collection. Side note: It was KIND of amazing that I received these products because I totally wrote about it here last year and I've been itching to get my hands on the stuff ever since! This is the first drugstore brand foundation, powder and concealer that I've found actually melts into my skin just like a prestige brand! There are 18 shades of foundation and powder, 6 shades of concealer, 12 shades of blush and 3 shades of bronzer so there's no way that you won't find the perfect shade for you. Here's a breakdown of each product in the line:

Fit Me! Foundation has a translucent base mixed with lightweight pigments that allow the foundation to give an excellent replication of the shade on the skin. (All of this according to the press release of course.) My take on it? It's super creamy yet very light and is the perfect non-foundation foundation. (You know, so you can create that whole "I'm not really wearing makeup" look.) It contains SPF 18 and retails for $7.99.

Fit Me! Powder is (yep! you guessed it!) also lightweight and blendable and leaves a non-cakey finish. Each of its 18 shades corresponds perfectly with the FIT ME! Foundation. ($7.99)

Fit Me! Concealer also contains the same formulation as the foundation to conceal imperfections without hiding skins natural imperfections. Translation from the press release: this stuff goes on smooth and doesn't do those other weird things that most drug store concealers do like just sit on top of whatever zit or pimple you're trying to conceal. ($6.49)

Fit Me! Blush features a silky, soft texture for easy blending and contains a soft, lasting fade-free natural color. Now, you know that as much as I abhor blush, I've been wearing it a bit more often than usual. So, even though I totally didn't want to put this stuff on, I did and was pleasantly surprised to see that it melded right into my skin without looking clownish. Amaze! ($5.51)

The best part about all of these products is not just how they look on you, but how they look in the stores. The stands in the drugstore contain what's called the "Fit Finder" tool making it super easy to find the right shades for you. Also, they each have numbers on them so if you're a 220 in foundation, then you're also a 220 in powder and concealer.

All of these products are available for purchase now at a drugstore near you, so you should probably go get your own set and test 'em out for yourselves! (Don't worry, you can thank me for the recommendation later.)

Holiday Gift Guide 2010: Great Smells From Philosophy

If there's one brand that practically screams holiday and evokes all those warm memories of opening toys underneath the Christmas tree as a child, drinking hot chocolate and other nauseatingly happy things that you may have done it's definitely Philosophy. In fact, most of the faces on the packaging for their holiday gift sets are childhood photos taken of the employees at the company. (Yes, for those of you like me that always wondered if those children were actual real people, they are!) So, above is like one of the only childhood pics of me you'll ever see in life of myself and fellow dance star Elizabeth right before a dance recital. Pretty cute, right?!
A couple of weeks ago (alright, it was really like months ago..where does the time go?!) I attended their holiday beauty blogger event and it was like stepping into an oasis of the most wonderful smells. This brand prides themselves on the ability to actually bottle the best scents in America. I mean, just one whiff alone of their gingerbread man scent is all you'll ever really need to make you happy with life. Did I mention that these are bath and body products that I'm talking about?! Yes, you can actually scent your self in these smells. AM-AZE!
Alright, so now that you get more of a mental picture as to what I'm talking about, let me go ahead and outline my fave products from the holiday collection for you:

Philosophy under the mistletoe lip gloss set

Women of all ages would be a fool not to love this set of super delicious (and extra glossy!) lip shades. Not only do they taste delicious (sweet, but not like that ingratiatingly sweet that hurts your teeth..yuck..) but they also provide the perfect sheer shade of color to lips. Each works great worn alone or over your fave shade of lipstick. (I can't get enough of that peppermint bark shade!)
    Price: $20

Philosophy gingerbread girl foaming bubble bath & shower gel
OMG. I can't even begin to tell you Glamazons how much I love this stuff! Like, I think I just may never leave and continue to wash my body/bathe in it year round! The name says it all (it really does smell like a ginger bread cookie) but unlike the ginger bread man scent in the collection, this one smells lighter and more girly. I know no other way to describe it than just that way...like if I could throw fragrance waves of this stuff your way through the computer screen I totally would hahaha.
    Price: $16

Of course, there are tons more gift sets and scents from this line (other faves of mine include the snow angel shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath as well as the eternal grace fragrance layering collection) so you'll have to get to their site asap to see them all (click here). As you can see, most of these are priced $20 or less so they're the perfect gifts for employees and other distant relatives that you may not want to spend tons of money on but want to gift them with something nice.

New Beauty Brand On The Block: L'Bel

There's Avon, Mary Kay and now L'Bel! I was recently introduced to this brand at a beauty breakfast last week and, after extensive testing of the products, was presently surprised to learn that this is actually good stuff.
After getting over my initial excitement of the fact that there was actual breakfast there (side note: I can't tell you the countless number of these things that I attend where breakfast only consists of a piece of fruit and coffee and I leave starving!) we (i.e. us beauty editors and bloggers) were given the entire background of the brand. I'll spare you the extremely long winded presentation we received (it's a good thing there was lots of coffee!) but I will tell you that the brand is French (hence the exotic name).
It just hit the U.S. and is sold through independent advisors (just like how you'd purchase products from Avon and Mary Kay). After flipping through the catalog provided in the goody bags we received at the end of the event, I noticed that there are products in the cosmetic, bath, body and fragrance arenas as well as goodies for men. So far I'm loving the Intensive Moisturizing Hand Cream, Hydra Calme Moisturizing Body Milk Lotion and Megacils XP False Lash Effect mascara. This stuff is super affordable (the mascara is only $15!) so you won't have to worry about breaking the bank in order to get your hands on some truly luxurious products. For more information on how to purchase, simply click here to visit their website. Happy shopping!
