GLAM OR SHAM?: Rihanna's Fashion Week Style

You can always count on Rihanna to make a fashion statement whether she's mixing prints or rocking her fire-red hair in a French Roll. Last season, during Fashion Week, she blew us away with her high-end, rock &roll looks but this time around, she seems to be embracing Fall's ladylike trend. And she's getting mixed responses.

My opinion? Ever since she started wearing her hair long, she's been off. She was out recently with just a blazer, a wide-brimmed fedora and Wolford leopard print knee socks. Okay...

Then, she showed up to her Topshop event (where competition winners were styled by her as a prize) in a Stella McCartney blazer, She Died of Perfection tee, tulle skirt and Marni pumps. Love the clash of a girly tulle skirt with a tough blazer but the fit is off. The blazer should be shorter. Also, the socks with pumps trend is supercool, but with this outfit, it is complete overload. One trend at a time, Rihanna. Not her best moment.

Next, we spotted her out with boyfriend Matt Kemp in a floral Stella McCartney suit and pumps. The shorter hemline helped here, but not a fan of the florals. Seemed like she should have been headed to church on Easter Sunday, not date night.

And lastly, Rihanna made an appearance at the Miu Miu Spring 2011 show in a long floral dress with a plunging neckline, blue socks and red pumps. Sigh. The demure hem and racy neckline clash for me, and not in a good way. Plus the florals, socks and dark color all make her look dowdy. She's a gorgeous, stylish woman with a perfect body; this does nothing to compliment it.

What do you think of Rihanna's style during Fashion Week? Is it an upgrade from last year? Glam or Sham?

    Kisses,

    Coutura

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen: Hair, Feathers and Butterflies

Alexander McQueen presented the most-anticipated show of Paris Fashion Week this season since it marks Creative Director Sarah Burton's first collection for the brand.

Burton warned that she wouldn't indulge in the kind of theatrics Lee McQueen is known for like bird headpieces and armadillo heels. "That was very much Lee's territory - the spectacular show," Burton told WWD. "I can't try and pretend to be Lee." Still, her initial offering was creative and dramatic enough to please the late designer who took his own life in February.

Skirts constructed from hair, dresses with feathered flourishes, gowns with digital prints, tops with sheer floral embroidery that erupt in voluminous skirts and jackets adorned with butterflies fluttering up the neckline made their way down the runway, which itself was constructed of wood planks with grass poking through.

Inspired by nature, which was a recurrent theme in Alexander McQueen's past collections, Burton's line was as artful, intricate and awe-inspiring as you'd expect from the Fashion house.

There was one element missing, however: the darkness that permeated McQueen's collections up to his death, starting perhaps with the Spring 2008 collection he designed for his late mentor, Isabella Blow. Burton remarked that by contrast, she is lighter and more feminine in her designs, characteristics that materialized in her choice of color (white and gold) and silhouette (fluid and romantic skirts).

As for beauty, the models' hair resembled basket-weaving in a complicated style that separates into two braids. The hair summed up what the collection represented to me; from far away, it looks romantic and soft but up close, you see the intricacy and creative vision is still there.

I think Lee McQueen would be proud; what do you think of Sarah Burton's first collection for Alexander McQueen?

Paris Fashion Week: Plus-Size Phenom Beth Ditto Walks in Jean Paul Gaultier Show

We already talked about how celebrities took over the catwalk during New York Fashion Week, and you know Paris Fashion Week would not be upstaged! (Paris is the better Fashion Week anyway, but I digress...).

Where NYFW showed thin celebs (Jaslene Gonzalez at Laquan Smith, Cassie at Laquan Smith) and sometimes curvy stars (Amber Rose at Indashio, Beyonce at Tom Ford, Serena Williams at Laquan Smith, model Crystal Renn at Z Spoke by Zac Posen), Paris brought out plus-size phenom, Beth Ditto, at the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 show. Wow - now that's a statement!

The beloved lead singer of Gossip and designer who pens an amazing line for Evans (that I recommend for any full-figured Glamazon with style!) stormed the catwalk in a laser-cut silver dress adorned with strips.

The rest of the collection was just as bold. Gaultier showed biker jackets, palm-print dresses, nautical patterns, lingerie and accordion pleats that were bursting with personality! A metal breastplate even made its way down the runway. If that's not funky and futuristic enough for you, how about attendees were given 3-D glasses for viewing the runway show?

While several publications cite that "it was all over the place," one constant was rockstar wigs inspired by icon, Joan Jett (below).

Here's Joan Smalls working the look. HOT!

Another motif that tied it all together was the resounding, all-encompassing message: live out loud. The collection is for daring, outrageous fashionistas who bask in the spotlight...kind of like Beth Ditto, who walked the runway at the finale performing a capella. Yes, Jean Paul Gaultier put on a show!

Check out the line below, also modeled by Crystal Renn, Anja Rubik, Coco Rocha, Karlie Kloss, Sessilee Lopez, Joan Smalls and more. What do you think?

Rihanna Forever: Check Out A Pic Of Her Wax Figure Here!

It's official: Rihanna has permanently cemented herself into pop culture history.
(Or, at least she waxed herself anyways.)
Madame Tussaud revealed the singer's waxy twin at their Washington D.C. location Tuesday morning and boy does it look really very much like RiRi! I mean, they even got the hair right. (Although I think it would have been way more cooler of they'd decided to showcase her recent red locks instead of the blonde which she ditched eons ago.) The statue, which features RiRi dressed in an all black outfit that I'd give my left kidney to have, is modeled after the outfit she wore to the Balmain show during Paris Fashion Week last October.
What does RiRi think of her statue? According to her Twitter account, she loves it and made it her newest profile picture.
In other non-waxy related RiRi news, the starlet recently made fun of her extremely large forehead by tweeting this pic of a curling burn she just gave herself. I must say, I laughed for about 10 minutes after looking at it...hilarious!
Do you love Rihanna's new wax figure, Glamazons? And don't you think it's funny that she twitpic'd herself with a burnt forehead?! (Hopefully her hairstylist Ursula Stephen had nothing to do with that hahahaha)
