Glamazon-Approved: The 2011 Ford Edge with My Touch Technology

Did you ever think you'd see the day when you could say "Restaurants" out loud and a list of restaurants in your vicinity would pop up on your car screen? How about a time when you could say "Beyonce" and similar music would start playing on your radio?

Welcome to 2011, ladies and gentlemen, the year of our newest obsession: the 2011 Ford Edge. Thanks to the innovative My Touch Technology, you can now interact with your vehicle, and it obeys! Yes glamazons, tell the Ford Edge what you want and boom, it provides. Wish men would act that way!

Ferocia and I had the pleasure of test driving the car in Atlanta at the 2011 Ford Edge Media Ride and Drive event.

We initially loved the look and drive of the vehicle which looks like an SUV but gives a smooth, comfortable and fast ride. But the My Touch technology won us over.

We were amazed at how convenient and easy it is to use. You can handle everything in the car one of three ways: through the touch screen, the controls on the wheels or the sound of your voice!

    Touch Screen

The 8 inch LC touch screen is tailored to a fab lifestyle with sections for phone, navigation, climate and entertainment (what more do you need?).

    Controls on Steering Wheel

And if you're guilty of paying attention to the screen and not the road (I am!), all the controls are on the steering wheel, which totally saves you from fumbling for your ipod and phone.

    The Sound of Your Voice

If you don't feel like touching at all, just voice a command and the My Touch technology will make it happen. Trust us, we tried it in Atlanta and it totally worked.

    Some other amazing features?

    Media Hub

There's also a media hub where you can plug in your laptop and ipod and write, blog, catch up on the latest news or just surf the web. Yeah, it's like they had me in mind when they built this car.

Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert

There's a feature that helps detect vehicles in your blind spot and traffic approaching from the side when you're pulling out of a parking space. How's that for safe?

    My-Key

Parents will like this. Scared to death when your teen takes your Ford Edge out for a drive? You can designate a key for your teen that can limit the car's top speed and audio volume, making speeding and blasting music impossible.

Check out video at the Ford Edge Media Ride and Drive event featuring The Glamazons and journalists from Bossip.com, Uptown Magazine and more:

Tell us what you think of the new technology and the 2011 Ford Edge.

    Kisses,

Live from ESSENCE Music Festival: Ford Sirius Booth with T.I. and Trey Songz, Video Interview with Idris Elba and Boris Kodjoe!!

Believe it or not, Glamazons, Janet Jackson's performance was only the beginning of the fun.

The next day, Ferocia and I headed to the Convention Center for an eventful day at the Ford Sirius booth. We rocked our NEW Glamazon tees, which read "You're looking at a GLAMAZON. No pictures, please." They are our very first design, and were a huge hit at the center! What do you think of them?

Shop the fabulous Glamazon tees here.

First, we got to test-drive the Ford Fusion Hybrid, which is our new favorite car. The hybrid lets you upload music from CD's and Ipods to your car's hard drive so you can say Good-bye to lugging your CD case every time you get in and out of the car.

It has a state-of-the-art advanced navigation system that not only directs you to your destination but reverses the directions for you when it's time to return home (umm, how amazing is that!).

Better yet, it's fuel-efficient operating on 41 miles per gallon. Pretty cool, right? According to Ferocia, who got behind the wheel, it drives like a dream.

After our joy ride, we headed to the Ford Sirius booth where T.I. came through to promote his new film, The Takers, followed by a surprise appearance by Trey Songz. And let's just say the girls---and bodyguards protecting the stars from the girls (you'll see Trey's below)---went crazy!

Both Idris Elba and Trey Songz tried to leave the convention center and were followed by rabid, crazed, screaming fans! Women (including one with a baby on her hip) chased Trey's car down the street screaming and banging on the window. Yeah, never that serious!

In the midst of all that craziness, the stars of the new film, The Takers, Idris Elba and Boris Kodjoe took a moment to chat with us and our good friends from Rolling Out. Boris gave us the scoop on his upcoming fashion line, and Idris let us in on his favorite songs to play when he DJ's. Check it out!

Live from Essence Music Festival: Janet Jackson Performs at the Superdome + Video and Setlist

    Glamazons,

I am a lucky girl. I've been a Janet Jackson stan since I could remember (I learned how to dance watching Pleasure Principle, how to flirt watching the "You Want This" video, how to balance sexy and cute watching "Love Will Never Do (Without You)," the list goes on).

And at the end of last year, I saw her perform "Scream" for her brother in person at the 2009 VMA's, met her for the first time at the Why Did I Get Married Too premiere AND saw her perform a full-fledged concert on Friday at the ESSENCE Music Festival in New Orleans.

And guys, you haven't lived until you've seen a Jackson perform, particularly the full fierce-and-fabulousness that is Janet Jackson. At forty-something, the August ESSENCE covergirl beat, killed and resurrected the Superdome main stage during Friday's performance.

She performed for two hours---with intermissions---gjving the audience everything she had with each number. She opened with Pleasure Principle (a cult classic) and went on to perform Control, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Feedback, You Want This, Miss You Much, I Get Lonely and so much more.

Her dance moves were impeccable, her voice flawless...and her fashion? Miss Jackson rocked everything from a metallic leotard to a glorious nude leotard that showed off all her sexy curves.

The highlights included an intermission with a video montage of all Janet's acting roles like Penny in Good Times, Charlene from Diff'rent Strokes and Cleo from Fame to Justice from Poetic Justice and Patricia in Why Did I Get Married Too. The crowd clapped ferociously for her Good Times, Poetic Justice and Why Did I Get Married scenes, establishing Janet as a beloved actress AND performer.

And the best part of the evening was her performance of Discipline. She did her signature set-up from the Velvet Rope tour where she takes an unsuspecting man from the audience (who I met backstage! He called the moment "awesome"), ties him up and has her way with him.

Janet let him lick her hand (below), fall face-forward into her mounds of cleavage AND she rode him onstage, clothes on of course. The picture above is her bouncing on top of him, you can see his bald head in the foreground. I could not pick my bottom lip off the ground. Janet was risque, yet in complete control of her sexuality. I love it!

    Check the video below:

After that show, Janet performed Nasty, Black Cat and Rhythm Nation (with all the dancers in perfect sync! What a sight to see!) before closing the show. Or so we thought.

Dressed in all white, Janet reappeared after twenty breathless minutes and shut down "Make Me" which she announced as her 33rd #1 hit. To close the phenomenal show, Janet performed "Together Again" with an angelic voice and spirited dance moves. The entire audience was jumping up and down with Janet; it was glorious.

When she got to the bridge and sang acapella: "There are times when I look above and beyond, there are times when I feel your love around me, baby..." pictures of her and the late Michael Jackson emerged on the screen---and the montage continued throughout the song.

Pictures of the siblings from childhood to their iconic "Scream" video brought smiles and applause from the audience. It was such a beautiful, memorable moment.

Check out pictures of the Glamazons hanging out backstage in the VIP Belvedere lounge below:

Niecey Nash gets a bartending lesson backstage

The Belve Peach ESSENCE drink which Niecey is learning to make was absolutely delicious! Ferocia and I were sipping on it all night long! The drink consists of 1/2 oz Belvedere Vodka, 1 oz Peach Snapps, 1/2 oz Lemon Juice and 3 oz of freshly brewed sweetened ice tea. Heaven!

Unlimited supply of the delicious Belvedere Pink Grapefruit

Yum! We spotted Boris Kodjoe backstage at the lounge. (We'd get to interview him later, didn't I say we are lucky girls?)

The ultimate crooner, Keith Sweat, was there! ::Sings:: Girl, you got me twisted over youuu...

Nene Leakes chatted it up with us at the event. She met Ferocia at the ESSENCE It Girl Competition in Atlanta, and declared that I am just as crazy! LOL

I met one of my favorite musicians, Raphael Saadiq! He said he is coming out with an album later this year! Yesss!

Tyler Perry and the Reverend Al Sharpton. Glamazons, partying with the Reverend Al Sharpton is truly a surreal moment.

Fun times all around! Stay tuned for more.

    Kisses,

    Coutura

A Day in the Life: Ford Fiesta "Inspired by Color" Competition with Constance White and Letoya Luckett

As a Jersey girl (who escapes to Miami often for vacation), I know the importance of a fabulous car! When I'm away from New York, my car becomes my accessory.

And never have I been so obsessed with a car until the Ford Fiesta. It's so cute---it feels tailor-made for me and my funky fashion sense. It comes in fab colors like yellow blaze to red candy metallic, which are super fun and stylish.

It's definitely the car I could see my friends and I hopping out of to head to the mall, the club, a restaurant, etc. And it's chic inside and out with cross-stitched interior to complement the bold exterior color.

But that's only the beginning. First, the Ford Fiesta is fuel-efficient, featuring a projected best-in-class highway fuel economy of 40 mpg.

Secondly, it has a feature that automatically syncs your IPOD to the radio, a class-exclusive push button start and a voice-activated, hands-free communications and entertainment system. Yes, the twenty-first century! You can control all of the following features in the car with your voice alone:

    - Hands-free Calling
    - Turn-by-Turn Directions
    - 911 Assist™
    - Music Search
    - Vehicle Health Report
    - Personalized Daily Info
    - Business Search
    - Real-time Traffic
    - Audible Text Messages

    Pretty cool, right?

To mark the launch of the first fashion-forward ride, Ford Fiesta invited yours truly to D.C. for "Inspired by Color," a competition to find a young, eclectic, cool college student to be one of five spokespeople for the car.

And boy, was it an adventure! Besides chopping it up with the amazing contestants (one of whom is charismatic, gorgeous and shops vintage, totally my favorite!), I was able to meet and interview three of my heroes, designer Mychael Knight and judges, style expert, Constance White and R&B sensation, Letoya Luckett! It was like the car version of American Idol!

Here's what Shawn Lollie, Ford Multicultural Marketing Manager, had to say about the competition, which challenged people to use their own personal style to connect with the colors and distinct features of the new Fiesta.

"Our goal was to create a unique program that truly embodied the spirit of the Fiesta. The Fiesta has an expressive, vibrant design and we wanted to tap into those style attributes in a way that was relevant to our target audience while engaging them using platforms that are very much a part of their everyday lives."

Out of the 150 people that turned out for the casting call at Howard University in Washington, D.C, dressed in a Fiesta-inspired way, only five were chosen (three of which were my personal favorites!). Those five fashion-forward winners (below) now appear in the new television ad for Ford's all-new small car. Sounds like a dream, right? It was for them.

    The five fabulous winners!

One of the winners, Echoe with my favorite car

    The Grand Prize Winner, Esosa

I was so happy to be a part of the process (which was like watching a reality competition before your eyes) from meeting the judges to chatting with my fave contestants.

For the first part of the competition, hopefuls consulted Memsor Kamarake, an amazing stylist who was formerly Fashion Director of Vibe, for style advice. Memsor would add final touches to make their outfit look as polished and fashion-forward as possible in front of the judges.

Then, contestants would take part in a photo shoot and interview to showcase how they were inspired by the fashion-forward, fuel-efficient Ford Fiesta.

Then it was time to meet the judges. Check out my video interviews with two of the judges, eBay Style Director, Constance White, and R&B sensation, Letoya Luckett, below:

How cool is "Inspired by Color" and the Ford Fiesta? For more, check out Vibe Magazine for a tie-in associated with the car that will run in print. Also, the car will be featured on BET's new fab show, The Travelista's! The lifestyle traveling duo will drive a 2011 Ford Fiesta as part of a custom webisode airing on www.bet.com.
