Ferocia's Two Cents On The Marie-Claire-Obese-People-Debacle

Hey Glamazons! OK, OK I know that I’m super late and just about everyone and their mom has said something about it already, but this whole Marie Claire blog post debacle has been on my mind for awhile now. And I totally have a blog (obvs!) so why not post my two cents about it, right?!

So, just in case you’re behind in the news, this blogger Maura Kelly that writes about Sex and Relationships for MarieClaire.com took to the net to air her opinions on fat people displaying public affection for each other. (Click here to read it.)

I’ve never actually watched the show she discusses (CBS sitcom Mike & Molly), but supposedly it's getting flack for the loads of “fat jokes” that are told on it as well as the fact that some viewers “aren’t comfortable watching intimacy between two plus-sized actors.”

In a nutshell, I think Maura's entire blog post was pretty insensitive, but the part that disturbs me the most was not that she voiced the fact of being grossed out at the idea of watching fat people make out but this:

“I think obesity is something that most people have a ton of control over. It’s something they can change, if only they put their minds to it.”

And then goes on to offer diet advice.

    WTF?!

Excuse me, Miss Kelly it’s OK to voice your opinion, but don’t presume to try and tell others how they should live (or lead) their lives.

I’m not an obese person, but I do have some friends and family members that are and never in life would I ever try to tell them how to lose weight when I myself would probably be the same if I didn’t have a high metabolism. (Yes, I have a seriously sad love affair with foods that aren’t always the best for me and working out is not exactly at the top of my to-do list.)

    Ewwww......

However, it does make my stomach turn to watch an obese person eat so would that be the same thing as her saying that she can’t stand the idea of them making out on public television? Is it insensitive for me to also say that I get angry when a fat person sits next to me on the train and hogs up all the space?

Yes, it probably is. But never in a million years would I ever judge anyone for being obese or even super skinny for that matter. It’s your life and you have to live it for yourself and no one else.

So, essentially, I don’t think that there’s harm in Maura actually voicing her opinion about what she views as being attractive (obese people obviously not being one of her top faves) but more so in the fact that she’s writing about (and passing judgment on) a whole topic that she knows nothing about.

Also, the fact that she’s writing on behalf of a women’s magazine that’s supposed to love all women (no matter what the size) makes it even worse. (Side note: It also doesn’t help that they currently have one of the skinniest women in America (i.e. Victoria Beckham) on their November 2010 cover.)

Although she’s since written an apology addendum to the blog post and added that she herself has struggled with anorexia, the damage has been done. Thousands of people have taken to the cyberworld to voice their opinions through MarieClaire’s Face Book and Twitter pages announcing that they’ve cancelled their subscriptions. I’m also pretty sure that Maura will never be able to show her face in the cyberworld again without receiving some sort of hate mail attached.

But, I want to know what you think about all this, Glamazons. Do you agree with me above when I say that it’s meaner that Maura passed judgment on obese people rather than the fact that she states that seeing them make out in public disgusts her? Am I wrong to say the things that I said above about fat people? Does anyone out there actually agree with what Maura writes?! Let’s talk about it below in the comments section.

Eva Longoria Launches Fragrance in London; Promises It Will Please Peeps Who Are "Allergic" To Perfumes

Actress Eva Longoria was recently snapped Sunday at The Perfume Shop in London as part of the official launch of her new signature fragrance Eva by Eva Longoria.
Last year, Longoria had this to say to WWD about why her fragrance was so darned special:
"I have always been somewhat allergic to all perfumes and really wanted to create something that every woman could wear. So, I decided to create my own fragrance that is light, fresh and unique. I think the scent of a woman is extremely sexy and this scent will prove that."
Um, so if you're really "allergic" to perfumes, shouldn't you just avoid them all-together?! Isn't it like false advertising to say that every woman can wear this new fragrance if you're truly allergic to fragrance?
Yes, Glamazons, I have seriously sat here and analyzed this. And I'm pretty sure that what the lovely Longoria meant when she said "allergic to perfumes" is that this is for those woman that can't stand the smell of cheap, overbearing liquids that other celebrities sometimes launch. (Ahem, Beyonce. Sorry guys but I still stand by my opinion that her first fragrance Heat smells cheap..and horrible. Hopefully her next one will be much better!)
Anywhoo, back to Longoria: apparently the actress was extremely involved in the making of it so that should be a good sign, right? It features top notes of citrus, neroli, bergamot tea and aldehydes. The heart of the fragrance includes sheer jasmine, muguet, violet and freesia with a drydown of skin musk, amber and sandalwood. The bottle was designed to resemble a "female silhouette."
Here's what the ads will look like:

It sounds like it will smell very light and pretty, but I'll hold judgement on it until I smell it for myself. The fragrance is slated to hit the U.S. by April2011 and will be available in stores such as Macy's and Dilliard's.
In the meantime don't you think that Longoria looks like Victoria Beckham's little mini-me in that beige dress (which just so happens to be a Victoria Beckham design) and matching Louboutins?! She looks gorge (per usual) but I really do wish that she'd develop her own style and run with it.
What do you think Glamazons? Also, who plans on buying the fragrance when it hits the U.S.?

Victoria Beckham's New Gig? Designing Range Rovers!

Dear God: If the whole idea of reincarnation really exists, can I please come back in my next lifetime as Victoria Beckham?!
I mean, she calls one of the hottest men on the planet her husband (hello David Beckham!), has a brood of the cutest boys ever and was a member of the Spice Girls (so awesome lol)
Ok, so maybe she isn't always her best fab self, but she does a pretty good job at landing the coolest gigs ever. She's been named Creative Design Executive by Range Rover; which means she's gonna be designing cars, Glamazons! How fab is that? Would you drive a car designed by Victoria Beckham? (I sure as heck would lol)

New Weave On The Block: Victoria Beckham

Spotted: Victoria Beckham walking through the airport on her way to Cannes (sons in tow) rocking longer locks. Why she ditched her uber sexy (poshy) glamtabulous haircut is beyond me. (I mean, that is a pretty fly haircut!) But, at least her weave looks like it's been professionally done (and not like she just slapped some tracks in herself like I think Britney Spears may have done...ew.) But, the ends look a bit piecy to me, so perhaps she should have added in a bit more hair?

What do you think of her long locks, Glamazons? Do you think that she should go back to her short hair?

Jessica Simpson's Tragic Fashion Faux Paux's

Why oh why won't Jessica Simpson just hire a stylist?! She's such a pretty lady and, though she doesn't say the most intelligent things in the world (ie admitting to the world that she doesn't brush her teeth every day) she could still do so much better when it comes to dressing herself. She wonders why people call her fat...it's because she wears clothes that are too fussy or just don't fit.
Above, she attended the LG Fashion Party Monday night in a black and gray dress from Victoria Beckham's clothing line. But why did no one tell her that she's a bit too busty for it?!

Here she's looking a bit better on Tuesday night at the 35th Annual Gracie Awards Gala that she attended with her mom. I must say though, I LOVE her makeup and hair. That voluminous ponytail is giving me LIFE!

What do you think, Glamazons? Do you think the starlet should hire a stylist? Or continue dressing herself?

GET THE LOOK: Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria's Super Sexy Hair

When I saw pictures of the fab twosome Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria strutting their stuff on the red carpet as hosts for "A Night of Fashion And Technology with LG Mobile Phones" party Monday night at the Soho House in West Hollywood, C.A., I couldn't help but swoon. I'm officially in hair lust with Beckham's textured cut...and Longoria's low, messy bun looks perfect for summer. Beckham looked long and lean in a short, neutral colored frock (it's a shorter version of the full-length gown she rocked at the Oscar's from her Victoria Beckham Fall 2010 collection) and Brian Atwood pumps. Longoria-Parker looked cute in a ruffled cream and black Reem Acra dress and strappy, black Atwood heels. Side note: I think I need her shoes to live. Both starlets are currently the faces of LG mobile phones.
Turns out that the hairstylist behind this awesome hair is none other than celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves and he shared with The Glamazons how he created the look; so now, you can do it yourself at home!
Side note: I'm growing my hair out a little bit longer and styling it just like Beckham's...love!

Here's what he had to say about the inspiration behind the looks he created:

I almost always get inspiration from what my clients are wearing – it tells the whole story when paired up with hair and makeup. Both Eva and Victoria chose outfits in nude shades that were modern yet feminine, clean and sexy! I decided the hair needed to be clean, simple with some slight texture to seem effortless, just like the clothes!”

Here's how to get Beckham's look:
-For Victoria, I started by using Self Help by Ken Paves A Shining Soul Volume-Friendly Glosser shine serum on her dried hair, concentrating on the ends.
-Then, using a 1-inch curling iron (try Ken Paves Professional Curling Iron) I took random pieces and curled some towards the front of her face and some towards the back, for a more piecy look.
-I finished off with a firm hairsrpray (try Self Help by Ken Paves Healthy Boundaries Hairspray) to provide hold and shine.

Here's how Beckham's hair looked from the back...isn't it super cute? Oh, and that tattoo is the business! Wonder what it means?

Aren't Eva and her husband, NBA's San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker, beyond adorbs?! I just love, love...and this picture...sigh. But, I digress...here's how to create her messy, low-bun look:
-To get Eva’s look, I started on her clean, air-dried hair that was free of any product.
-Once it was 95% air dry, I spritzed her hair with a texturizing spray (try Self Help by Ken Paves Stop Putting Up Walls Styling Mist to provide texture to the hair without buildup).
-Then using my hands, I loosely pulled her hair back into a low chignon, and secured it with bobby pins – not a rubber band – for a more effortless look.
-I then fingered through some firm hairspray to keep the volume on top intact and flyaways at bay.

Which hairdo look do you plan on stealing for yourself?
